Services Available

Family Support

Families of children and adult family members with disabilities are supported through a variety of means in order to assist them in meeting their own needs. This helps keep their disabled family member in the home for as long as is desirable and practical.


Family supports provided by the St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled include a food pantry, flu shot clinic, home modifications,and wheelchair ramp construction. These supports are provided though contracts with the L.I.F.E Center for Independent Living and the Scouting for Food Campaign.


A quarterly newsletter containing informative features and articles about the agency is distributed to families and individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the county.


Respite Care

Respite care is a form of temporary relief for families who need short term care for a disabled family member. Out of home respite care is currently available for 24 hours or longer in the St. Francios County Resource Center.


Recreation

The St. Francois County Board schedules a full array of recreational activities for persons with developmental disabilities. Activities are scheduled throughout the year and include such things as dances, swimming, movies, various field-trips, and much more. The St. Louis Sports Guild sponsors a fishing day at Lake Capri, Terre DuLac, MO in June. Summer camp scholarships are available for St. Francois County residents to attend Camp Wonderland and/or Camp Sunnyhill. At this time the St. Francois County Board sponsors Special Olympic athletes in basketball competitions, bowling competitions and Explorer Post #9475.



Residential Services

The St. Francois County Group Home, which is owned and operated by the St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled, is a 8 bed Medicaid Waiver facility that provides residential habilitation services to Medicaid eligible individuals with a developmental disability. Services include training in self-care, socialization, and domestic skills.


Individualized Supported Living

The St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled contracts with the Missouri Department of Mental Health to provide Individualized Supported Living (ISL) services. Individualized Supported Living is a coordinated system of supports designed to assist individuals in making choices in achieving independence in the least restrictive environment. Individuals choose from a variety of housing options including apartments, mobile homes, or purchasing a home. Support services include assistance with shopping, paying bills, and the use of community services.


Transportation

Southeast Missouri Transportation Services (SMTS) operates weekly transportation routes with door to door service in St. Francois County and other surrounding southeastern counties. The St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled contracts with SMTS to transport passengers to sheltered employment and training programs. Additional transportation is contracted for on an as needed basis.


St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled also provides matching funds to obtain vehicles through Section 5310 Capital Assistance Grants from the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department.

Buses

Employment

Support is provided to the Missouri Community Improvement Industries Sheltered Workshop, Alternative Opportunities, Inc. and the Journey to Discovery Vocational Services program. These services enable adults with developmental disabilities to earn income and become contributing, productive members of our society workforce.


Community Services

The St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled provides services to individuals who live at home or in residential settings. These supports center around the individual and are designed to facilitate a person's choice to work, learn and actively participate with non-disabled peers in the community. These supports might include training, protective oversight, physical assistance,environmental adaptions, accompaniment, coaching, and minor problem solving to achieve increased independence,productivity and inclusion within the community. Other support services may include; obtaining, learning and maintaining a job, earning a paycheck and keeping a checking account,safely within the community, socialization with co-workers and friends and just being part of their community.



Service Coordination

The St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled has entered into a partnership with the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) to provide Service Coordination to disabled consumers in St. Francois County. Service Coordinators are responsible for ensuring the individuals receiving support have access to and receive services that meet their individual needs. These are accomplished by formulating a Personal Plan, informing the consumer of available services, and then linking the consumer to those services from agencies in the community. In addition, the Service Coordinator acts as an advocate for the consumer by encouraging them to exercise their rights and make their voice heard for improvements or changes.
